Heidi is delighted to move in with her grandfather up in the Alps. There, she joyfully plays in the meadows with Peter and his goats. But her happiness is short-lived.
Soon she is sent to live with the Sesemann family in Frankfurt so that she can learn to read under the strict supervision of Fräulein Rottenmeier. Although she gets along wonderfully with her new friend, Clara, Heidi becomes more and more homesick for her beloved mountains.
